The 20 tonnes of apples rejected by Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor haven’t been sent back to Moldova. The information was confirmed by Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov for IPN.
Last week, Rosselkhoznadzor announced that 20 tonnes of Moldovan apples have been rejected because they contained higher than allowed levels of pesticides and nitrates. The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova informed that an examination will be carried out. Contacted by IPN, Vasile Bumacov said the examination wasn’t performed as the apples weren’t returned to Moldova. He avoided saying why the Russian service made such statements.
It should be noted that after the information about the Moldovan apples was made public, Russia’s food safety body Rospotrebnadzor blocked a consignment of over 24,000 bottles of cognac “Barza Alba”, produced by the company Aroma, for the reason that they didn’t meet the sanitary norms. The service argued that the Moldovan authorities didn’t take the previous warnings serious and this can lead to a repeat of the situation of 2006, when the Moldovan wine products weren’t accepted on the Russian market.
