The Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected as unfounded the Socialist Party’s appeal against the decision of the Central Electoral Commission to open only five polling stations in Russia for the October 20 presidential election and constitutional referendum.
In particular, the Court of Appeal noted the argument brought by the CEC, as well as the opinions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Intelligence and Security Service, that polling stations in Russia must be located further away from the dangers of the war.
“Essential logistical aspects related to ensuring a proper conduct of electoral processes and integrity of electoral documents” were also taken in consideration.
As per the CEC decision, two polling stations will be opened in Moscow, and one each in the cities of Saint-Petersburg, Yaroslavl and Surgut.
The appellate ruling may be further appealed at the Supreme Court of Justice within 3 days.
The Socialist Party has complained that the CEC decision to open only five polling stations in Russia amounts to a violation of electoral rights for the Moldovans working and living there.
