The Supreme Court of Justice on April 22 accepted the appeal by the Central Election Commission (CEC) and quashed the April 14 judgment of the Chisinau Appeals Court by which the Commission is obliged to organize the constitutional referendum initiated by the initiative group of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, IPN reports.
The Supreme Court of Justice’s judgment says the lawsuit filed by the initiative group against the CEC is rejected. The decision is irrevocable.
The group created by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” initiated a referendum to amend the Constitution’s provisions concerning the election and dismissal of the President, to limit parliamentary immunity and to reduce the number of MPs from 101 to 75. The group collected over 400,000 signatures for each of the questions, but the CEC rejected them for the reason that these weren’t collected in accordance with the law.
