Appeals Court rules Mihai Ghimpu is legal president of Chisinau Council, as controlling bodies will appeal the writ

The Chisinau Court of Appeals confirmed the legality of electing Mihai Ghimpu as the chairman of the Municipal Council (CMC,) rejecting, on Tuesday, March 11, the appeal filed by the Administrative Control Territorial Direction of the Local Public Administration Ministry, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Administrative Control Territorial Direction head Ghenadie Gluscenco has told journalists he will appeal the writ in the higher court. According to Ghenadie Gluscenco, the head of the Chisinau Territorial Direction, legal procedures were breached while electing Mihai Ghimpu. The decision was adopted without being introduced in the order of the day beforehand, the info-note and endorsements of the Council’s committees lacked. Ghenadie Gluscenco accuses that the work of the CMC president also implies certain expenses, yet the respective decision does not provide for covering those expenses. Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party, was elected as CMC’s president on October 11, 2007, with the votes of 27 councilors out of 51.
