The Chisinau Appeals Court dismissed as unfounded Marina Tauber’s appeal against the Balti District Electoral Council’s decision not to admit her to the competition for the mayoralty of Balti at the November 5 election. The Court’s decision can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice within three days of the adoption, IPN reports.

After the Constitutional Court declared some of the Electoral Code’s provisions unconstitutional, the Commission for Exceptional Situations made an order by which it specified the individualization criteria referring to persons who cannot stand for elections in the November 5 general local elections and how the given administrative decisions can be challenged in the Appeals Court. Shortly afterward, Parliament adopted amendments to the electoral legislation and these stipulate the criteria based on which members of a party declared unconstitutional will be prevented from running in elections.

Before the criteria were adopted, MP Marina Tauber applied to the Balti District Electoral Council to be registered as an independent candidate for the mayoralty of Balti. The electoral body refused to register her given that she was on the list compiled by the Central Election Commission.
