The European Civic Movement, represented by MPs in the first Parliament, historians, teachers, invites pro-European candidates to the position of general mayor of Chisinau municipality to participate in responsible debates, to identify a formula for pro-European forces to emerge victorious in the local elections on October 20. The roundtable will be held on Monday, September 30, at 12:00, at the "Onisifor Ghibu" Public Library.
At an IPN press conference, Valentin Dolganiuc, a member of the first Parliament, has quoted from the Appeal, mentioning that the identification of a joint pro-European candidate for local elections will not allow the takeover of Chisinau by the pro-Russian revanchist forces, hostile to the Republic of Moldova. "Chisinau must maintain its status as a national and European city. The refusal of candidates to take part in the action will be qualified as a defiance of the national interest”, says the Appeal.
According to political analyst Anatol Taranu, who is a member of the first Parliament, local elections are an extremely complicated exam, as they pave the way for parliamentary elections. In his opinion, the way the pro-European forces will manifest themselves will determine the results of the next parliamentary elections. "If we are able to show civic and political maturity, responsibility, then the national cause in the Republic of Moldova is not lost," said Anatol Taranu.
In the opinion of Alecu Reniţă, a member of the first Parliament, if Chisinau is captured by the representatives of the Moldovan civic nation at the local elections, we will risk to return to the status of "Russian colony", which we had before the Declaration of Independence. "The fight that will take place in Chisinau will be truly geopolitical. Here we will have to give a clear answer, what is the future of the Republic of Moldova”, said Alecu Reniţă.
According to historian Ion Negrei, convening a round table, with sincere and responsible discussions, would be a way to identify a key to success for local elections. "What will happen in Chisinau in these elections will create a general impression of the Republic of Moldova. It is very important that the European vector be preserved in Chisinau,” said Ion Negrei.
The debates were attended by 12 pro-European electoral competitors out of the 20 remaining in the electoral competition for the position of general mayor of Chisinau municipality. These are Teodor Cîrnaţ, Victor Chironda, Dorin Chirtoaca, Ruslan Codreanu, Alexandru Fetescu, Vitalie Marinuţa, Valeriu Munteanu, Lilia Ranogaeţ, Octavian Ţîcu, Dumitru Ţîra, Vladimir Ţurcanu and Boris Volosatîi.
