The prosecutors’ appeal against the house arrest imposed on ex-president Igor Dodon has not been examined today at the Chisinau Court of Appeals as scheduled, with the matter being postponed until Thursday.

Today prosecutors challenged Judge Ghenadie Morozan on grounds of bias, citing in particular his kinship to the fugitive oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who is also a person of interest in the case. However, the request was rejected, with the examination of the appeal proper being postponed until Thursday.

Prosecutors are asking the appellate court to review the lower court’s ruling to place Igor Dodon under house arrest for 30 days, saying the measure is not enough to prevent the former president from interfering with the investigation and contacting with other persons of interest.

Last week, Igor Dodon was arrested on charges of corruption, receiving illegal financing for the Socialist Party, and high treason.
