The relations with mass media do not improve when the governments change in Moldova. The access to information continues to be limited. Such an opinion was expressed by journalists that took part in the first of the three debates organized by the Independent Press Association (API) in Orhei on May 13, as part of the Press Freedom Days. “Our aim is to bring together journalists, NGO leaders and representatives of the local authorities at debates for exchanging opinions about the situation of the Moldovan journalists and the freedom of the press. Chisinau witnesses many abuses on the press and interference in their activity. We want to find out the opinion of the people about this,” the API executive director Petru Macovei has told Info-Prim Neo. According to the cited source, the debates held in Orhei were attended by representatives of the press as well as jurists, librarians, employees. They discussed what support the mass media should enjoy, how the materials of the journalists are perceived by the readers, the situation of the journalists on duty. The problems to which they pointed are mainly the same as those discussed at thematic conferences and seminars in Chisinau, but at local level, these have a higher intensity. The sources of information in Chisinau are varied, while at regional level there are few of them, said Petru Macovei. The next seminar will take place in Balti in a week. A seminar in Comrat will follow afterward.
