The water supplier of Chisinau will have a system that will enable it to swiftly identify leakages in pipes and the employees of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” could thus intervene faster, the company’s director general Veronica Herta said in the July 10 meeting of officials of Chisinau services, IPN reports.

“The system will enable us to swiftly identify the leakages, without staying at the dispatcher’s office and waiting for consumers’ phone calls. This way we will be able to see where the pressure decreased and to intervene speedily,” stated Veronica Herta. The contract for implementing the SCADA system was signed on June 30 by “Apa-Canal Chisinau” and a national business entity that won the tender contest held this March.

The contract envisions the modernization or renewal of the equipment of water and sewer pumping stations, storage of data and implementation of a common data processing instrument, monitoring and control of chemical, physical and transport processes. The system will be implemented by this yearend.

The signing of such a contract is stipulated in the €62 million Priority Investment Program that is financed by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU’s Neighborhood Investment Fund.

According to ”Apa-Canal Chisinau”, about 360 accidents in water and sewerage networks occur weekly in Chisinau municipality. These are dealt with by the company’s employees as swiftly as possible. A number of 200 km of water pipes and about 7 km of sewer pipes are to be renovated as part of the program supported by the EBRD and EIB.
