After the new technology stated to be implemented at the Wastewater Treatment Station, the water supplier SA Apa-Canal Chisinau managed to free over 13 hectares of the existing 34 from mud. These necessary measures make the unpleasant smell be felt more acutely. The company's administration apologizes for the created inconveniences and asks the residents of Chisinau to be patient and understanding, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the water supplier. According to the quoted source, after all the areas are freed from mud, the unpleasant smell in Chisinau will practically disappear. The new methodology consists in the utilization of geotubes that separate the residues from water, hastening the drying of the collected mud. Despite the low temperatures in winter, the geotubes produced promising results. “Being considered an effective fertilizer that does not contain heavy metals or other toxicological impurities, the mud can be used for re-cultivating the excavated lands located near the Wastewater Treatment Station, like the plot occupied earlier by the solid waste burning plant,” it is said in the communique. At the request of the state-run company “Dumbrava-Vest”, which owns farmland near Bubuieci village, Apa-Canal Chisinau started to transport small quantifiers of mud to that land. The water supplier signed a contract with the mentioned company, but a part of the villagers whose houses are situated nearby boycotted the works. On April 6, Apa-Canal Chisinau, the Chisinau City Hall and the local authorities of Bubuieci agreed to interrupt the works until “Dumbrava-Vest” obtains the consent of the villagers. The mud drying project implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the Dutch company “Tencate” is a temporary solution for removing the unpleasant smell, until the Wastewater Treatment Station is reconstructed. The project was launched in 2008. Last October, SA Apa-Canal Chisinau and the Dutch company signed a cooperation agreement.
