SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) said the difference in the consumed volume of water is formed between the common water meter installed in the building’s basement and the meters installed in apartments, while the water leakages happen on the external pipes and are not connected with this difference, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the water supplier.
According to ACC, it manages over 1 800 km of water pipes that convey water from the Nistru River and the company’s 50 artesian wells. The water is transported and treated through its two water treatment stations and 100 pumping stations that work nonstop. In order to prevent emergencies, the company daily stores about 180,000 cubic meters of drinking water.
The supplier says that the losses through any new water pipe represent 3% of the transport capacity. In most of the cases, these losses are not considered losses, but technological consumption. Not all the water leakages on the street result from accidents on the pipes. In order to ensure a high quality of the drinking water, the piping system must be cleaned yearly. The cleaning works are often confused with accidents.
More than 60% of the over 1 800 km of water pipes managed by the company are worn-out. Therefore, the water leakages are inevitable. But, owing to the reliable consumers who inform about leakages, immediate measures are taken to deal with them.
Most of the over 50 leakages recorded daily are latent in character and the costs incurred to deal with them are higher than the value of the water losses. It is well-known that the fixing of the insignificant leakages, of about 10% of the total volume of provided services, is not profitable.
