Apa-Canal Chisinau awarded Labor Glory order

The Chisinau water supplier SA Apa-Canal Chisinau on December 12 celebrates 120 years of the putting into operation of the first water supply system. In the anniversary forum, the company was awarded the Labor Glory order for the results achieved over years, Info-Prim Neo reports. The company’s director general Constantin Becciev said that since 2000 until now, the water supply networks were extended to about 2,000 kilometers, while the sewerage networks to 1,000 kilometers. In April, SA Apa-Canal Chisinau replaced the chlorine used to treat the drinking water at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station with sodium hypochlorite, which is a more efficient disinfectant. At the station on the Nistru, this was done in 2009. Constantin Becciev also said that in the anniversary forum the French company “Seureca” offered the company the feasibility project of the Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment in Chisinau Municipality Program. Thus, any initiative to develop the water supply networks or the sewerage networks over the next 15 years will be based on this project. The program envisions primary investments of about €60 million and a program of long-term investments of about €220 million, which was designed within the European Neighborhood Policy. The director stated that the company’s top priority is to attract foreign investments to modernize the infrastructure and the water supply system in the municipality of Chisinau. Deputy secretary general of the Moldovan President’s apparatus Vladimir Sarban handed over the Labor Glory order to the company on behalf of Nicolae Timofti, for long and professional work. A number of employees of the company were also awarded honors. An exhibition of materials that contain historical data selected from the national archive of Moldova and from Bucharest and Saint Petersburg was staged in the company’s halls on the occasion of the anniversary. It includes the most relevant pictures about the work and modernization of the water supplier. The current centralized water supply system of the municipality of Chisinau dates from December 12, 1892. It was designed by the famous architect Alexandru Bernardazzi. Initially, the water pipe was 35 kilometers long. It has a capacity of 200,000 pails a day.
