The charge for the public water supply and sewerage service in the municipality of Chisinau could be raised. The operator requested the National Agency for Energy Regulation to increase the charge to an average of 22.51 lei: 14.10 lei for water and 8.41 lei for sewerage.

Contacted by IPN for details, Galina Sanduța, head of the Agency’s Communication Service, said that the operator’s request is being examined. The date of the meeting at which a decision on the issue will be taken will be posted on the institution’s website.

At the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services on Monday, deputy mayor of Chisinau Irina Gutnic said that the request to adjust the charge is in strict compliance with the legal framework. “The charge is adjusted when there are preconditions for modifying the costs incurred by the operator. At the beginning of 2024, the minimum and average wages in the economy changed. Respectively, the pay levels also underwent changes. This is one of the preconditions that need to be presented to the Agency for being taken into account,” said Irina Gutnic.

In January 2023, the National Agency for Energy Regulation approved a water and sewerage charge of 15.30 lei/cubic meter for household consumers and of 24.46 lei/cubic meter for non-household customers. At that time, the municipality described the Agency’s decision as a detrimental one. Subsequently, in October 2023, the Agency approved a single charge for the provision of the public drinking water supply service for all consumers, in the amount of 10.79 lei/cubic meter, and for the public sewerage service, of 4.18 lei for household consumers and of 10.16 lei for non-household customers.
