“The relations between Moldova and the United States have never been stronger before. Today we came here with a very simple message – to express our continuous support for Moldova and to reiterate our assistance for concrete and rapid actions aimed at doing the reforms needed by Moldova to achieve its European integration objective,” U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said after a meeting with Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, IPN reports.
The American official, who paid a visit to Moldova within his European tour, said he was impressed by the Prime Minister’s view about how Moldova should be developed and by his determination to obtain progress for the people’s benefit and assured that the authorities and the people of Moldova will enjoy the United States’ support in all their efforts.
In the name of the U.S. Government, Antony J. Blinken reiterated his commitment for the bilateral relations with Moldova and the continuation of cooperation for fully resolving the Transnistrian dispute in the 5+2 format and for achieving the European integration goal.
Chiril Gaburici noted that Moldova continues to count on the United States’ assistance in modernizing the country and thanked the U.S. for the substantial assistance, in the amount of US$1.2 billion, provided during the last 23 years. The Premier also thanked the U.S. for the support offered within the Compact and expressed Moldova’s increased interest in signing a new such program with the MCC.
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken came to Moldova from France on March 3. From Chisinau, he will travel to London and Berlin, while on March 6 he will go to Kiev.
