The People’s Movement “Antimafie” will mount a protest in front of the Parliament Building when the MPs will come together for the first sitting of the spring-summer session. In a news conference at IPN on February 9, the party’s leader Sergiu Mocanu said the whole society is invited to take part in the event and to demand that the government program should provide that a foreign person will be named as prosecutor general in Moldova and that the justice system will be independent.

“Tomorrow (February 10), Parliament is to hold a sitting. We, the Movement “Antimafie”, will be present there from the beginning of the sitting until its end, together with those people who will answer our call to protest,” stated Sergiu Mocanu.

The politician announced that the Chisinau City Hall was informed about the events that they intend to stage during a month. “In the current situation, there is no other way out than staging a revolt. The street revolt is the only solution that can restore the European integration course in Moldova,” stated the leader of “Antimafie”.

Sergiu Mocanu referred also to the negotiations between the parliamentary groups and the candidate nominated for premiership, saying that society witnesses a cynical show in which the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU is openly rejected.

According to the leader of “Antimafie”, the events around the formation of the new Government are based on one reason – the mafia circles of Moldova do not want the Association Agreement with the EU to be implemented because this implies ensuring an independent prosecution service that will definitely examine serious cases that can lead to imprisonment.

The Parliament’s Standing Bureau on February 9 will convene to set the date when the candidate for the post of Prime Minister Iurie Leanca will ask for the MPs’ vote of confidence for the Cabinet and the government program. The Government is invested by the votes of at least 51 of the 101 MPs.
