“The electoral year 2020 is a chance for the unionist forces to unite and give a blow to the mafiotized or opportunist pro-Russian parties, which wasn’t possible in the Chisinau mayoral elections,” stated the vice president of the Party ”People’s Movement Antimafie” Daniela Bodrug. In a news conference at IPN, she said that a powerful political force should be consolidated for an electoral struggle and the unionist parties of Moldova should provide a common candidate for the presidential elections of the end of this year so as to win.

According to Daniela Bodrug, in the presidential elections of 2020, the current President of Moldova can be beaten in the runoff only if Maia Sandu is defeated by the unionists in the first round of voting. “The voters understood that Maia Sandu does not have elementary political abilities after she easily conceded the government and all the instruments for subduing this state to Igor Dodon,” stated the politician.

Daniela Bodrug noted the period prior to the presidential elections is similar to that prior to the local mayoral elections held in Chisinau last autumn and the unionists should not become again mass of maneuver for the interests of the mafiots and the Russians. The situation can be changed if the unionist parties do not repeat the mistakes made in the mayoral elections in Chisinau, where everyone had their own candidate.

The Antimafie Movement proposes that the leaders of the unionist parties should designate negotiators who would take part in discussions to identify the future common candidate of the unionist forces at the presidential elections. But these negotiators should not be party leaders.

The parties are invited to field negotiators until January 19 and to hold the first round of discussions on January 21.

“We should already work with this common candidate we will identify at the negotiations so that this person during a year could form the electoral base for the unionist force of the Republic of Moldova,” said Daniela Bodrug.

She noted she will personally contact the leaders of the unionist parties so as to inform them about the initiative and to invite them to field negotiators for discussions so as to identify the unionists’ common candidate for this year’s presidential elections.
