The People’s Movement Antimafie is initiating a campaign against the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc. On each Tuesday, Antimafie will give news conferences in reply to the news conferences held by the PDM on Mondays, after the party’s extended meeting.

In a news conference at IPN on April 11, People’s Movement Antimafie deputy head Daniela Bodrug spoke about the international conference staged in Chisinau on April 8 to debate the PDM’s initiative to introduce the uninominal voting system. She said that event actually produced the effect planned by Plahotniuc – to polish his image of criminal and to promote the image of a politician who has a legislative initiative debated by the whole society.

According to Daniela Bodrug, the participants in the event played the game of Plahotniuc and didn’t state clear positions on this initiative and didn’t adopt a final resolution.

In this connection, Antimafie calls on civil society to demand that the legislative initiative to amend the Electoral Code should be withdrawn from Parliament so that the PDM stops the campaign centering on the advantages of the uninominal voting system, and to also demand that the PDM stop to corrupt MPs with the aim of obtaining a parliamentary majority.

As regards the foiled attempt to murder the leader of the PDM, the deputy head of Antimafie said she does not think it was a farce. Most probably, it was a premeditated act that forms part of the criminal underworld’s strategy to liquidate Plahotniuc. “This attempt was a first stage aimed at frightening Plahotniuc, destabilizing him psychologically and following the reaction of the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Daniela Bodrug.
