The “Antimafia” movement calls on all Romanian citizens who live in Moldova to boycott the July 29 referendum. Movement leader Sergiu Mocanu says that this is a trap by which the Romanian mafia tries to overthrow the Romanian rule of law, and that the current governing power in Chisinau does not differ at all from the one formed across the Prut river. Sergiu Mocanu declared on Tuesday in a press conference that until the date of the referendum for president Traian Basescu’s dismissal, July 29, members of the “Antimafia” will be very active in asking people not to go to the voting stations. “We will transmit this message to all of our branches. Our members will meet with people and explain to them why they should not go to vote. This referendum must not happen. It is an example of lack of ethics; they open voting stations on beaches, prepare tons of wine and foods, all in order to attract Romanians. Regardless of whether they vote “for” or “against”, their votes may be falsified”, said Sergiu Mocanu. “Antimafia” will create groups on different social networks for appealing towards Romanians, not only from Moldova, but from other countries as well, to stop the referendum. If 50% of the voters do not go, then Traian Basescu’s suspension will be annulled. The “Antimafia” leader qualified the suspension of the Romania President as a coup d’état, and criticized Moldovan political leaders for welcoming Victor Ponta in Chisinau. “Filat, Lupu and Plahotniuc, Mihai Ghimpu, and Nicolae Timofti – all have become accomplices of the coup d’état to the Romanian rule of Law”, Sergiu Mocanu pointed out. “Something like this was only possible in the USSR. After 20 years it was also possible in Moldova. Ponta is welcomed by all the leaders from Chisinau. At least Ghimpu was supposed to have a different attitude, but he crossed to the mafia’s side”, added the “Antimafia” leader. On July 29 Romanian citizens are called to vote on the question “Do you agree with the dismissal of the Romanian President?”. There will be 14 polling stations in Moldova.
