A line prosecutor working in the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office was arrested last night in the act of receiving what is believed to be a 1,500 euros bribe.
Anticorruption Chief Prosecutor Viorel Morari told a press briefing today the APO acted on a complaint from a police officer, who alleged that the suspect had asked for the 1,500 euros bribe in order to solve a criminal case favorably for the officer.
The police officer had been investigated for abuse of power. What he didn’t know is that the charges against him had been dropped already when he was asked for the bribe.
The prosecutor has been given 72 hours of preventive arrest. Morari says he is cooperating with the investigation.
