Antibiotic resistance should be confirmed only by laboratory tests. For the purpose, very extensive examinations of the microbiota are needed. Curranty, there are no such national studies. In Moldova, studies are carried out only in the case of particular diseases, at the level of institutions, IPN reports, quoting participants in a program on Canal 2 channel.
“At national level, we do not have such studies. Surely, these are very necessary as we need to know how to correctly manage antibiotherapy,” said pediatrician and lecturer Olga Cârstea.
According to her, antibiotherapy can affect gut microbiota that interacts with the immune system, with metabolism and other factors. “After irrational antibiotherapy, the flora can recover in one-two months in children. A number of negative effects can appear meanwhile, such as increased sensitivity to allergens, but this happens when there is a predisposition,” stated the pediatrician. Olga Cârstea noted the antibiotic should be administered very carefully.
Tatiana Iurcu, neonatologist of Municipal Hospital No. 1 in Chisinau, said the number of children who suffered from pneumonia this years is lower than last year. Compared with 2017, when 74% of the children admitted to Municipal Hospital No.1 had pneumonia, in 2018 the incidence stood at 41% of the total number.
