About 370 workers have spread anti-icing substances on sidewalks and access ways to the yards of apartments buildings in Chisinau since 3am this morning. In the December 17 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, the head of the General Public Amenities Division Ion Burdiumov said the works will continue until all the sidewalks are covered with salt and sand, IPN reports.
According to Ion Burdiumov, on large sidewalks the anti-icing substances are spread by vehicles, while on narrow ones by hand. At least the main arteries in the morning were passable.
As many as 41 tonnes of anti-icing substances were spread on sidewalks on December 16. The process was harder then as the rain favored the formation of ice. The vehicles owned by the Division are insufficient in number and the employees cannot cope faster.
Forecasters issued a yellow code advisory for snow and glazed frost for the period between December 17, 6am, and December 18, midnight.
