Transparency International (TI) Moldova and the Anti-Corruption Centre launched on Monday, April 2, the fifth edition of the cartoon exhibition “Painters against Corruption”. This year’s edition is themed “Electoral Entertainment”.
The exhibition’s inauguration took place, as usual, in the premises of the “Constantin Brancusi” Exhibition Centre of the Fine Artists Union. Promotional and informational materials of TI Moldova, including posters, calendars, notebooks and albums of anticorruption cartoons have been distributed at the inauguration.
Most of the displayed cartoons belong to caricaturist Ion Matu, who launched, as part of the exhibition, his sixth volume of cartoons “Painters against Corruption”.
Matu stated that, thanks to his job, he has an active position in the society and is not indifferent to all that is happening. The painter’s message is that the citizens must not lose their mind when they cast their vote. “A citizen must not disregard elections, because only the voter can decide who will govern the society. The cartoons bring to light not only the shortcomings of the civil servant, but also of the common people that are unable to distinguish right from wrong”, the cartoonist says.
Director Executive of TI Moldova, Lilia Carasciuc mentioned that besides the main activities of the organisation, such as investigating the corruption phenomenon in Moldova, making comments on bills, monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy for Preventing and Combating Corruption, in the given case, Transparency International calls on all the parties and civil society to contribute to the organisation of free, fair, democratic and participative elections.
The well-known cartoonists Alex Dimitrov, Gheorghe Nathan, Valeriu Ionitoi etc. have presented their works at the exhibition.
The free-entry exhibition can be visited till April 12.
The event is organised with the financial support of the UK Government - Department for International Development.
