The National Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) last year allocated about 722,000 numbers from the National Numbering Plan to providers of electronic communications networks and/or services. This figure does not differ much from the figures for 2008.
The phone numbers form part of the limited numbering resources owned by the state and are allotted by the Agency to providers of electronic communications networks and/or services by issuing licenses to them. These resources represent any numbers and codes that are used to identify the subscribers and the providers of electronic communications networks and/or services. In 2009, the Agency issued 95 licenses allowing using numbering resources.
ANRCETI last year allocated 600,000 numbers for public mobile phone networks – 300,000 numbers from the 783 XXXXX, 788 XXXXX and 630 XXXXX blocks to Moldcell, 200,000 numbers from the 601 XXXXX and 602 XXXXX blocks to Orange Moldova and 100,000 numbers from the 673 XXXXX block to SA Moldtelecom (X contains digits from 0 to 9).
Also, Moldtelecom received over 100,700 numbers for public fixed phone networks, while the other providers of public fixed phone networks and services – 12,000.
The Agency also provided 9,100 numbers for the information services Freephone and value added services Premium Rate and more than 1,000 numbers for furnishing taxi, IP phone and other services.
Under the legislation, ANRCETI formulates the National Numbering Plan and allots numbering resources to providers of electronic communications networks and/or services. The providers use the resources for their own needs, give them to subscribers or other legal entities that furnish public services. The period of validity of a license is 10 years or 15 years in some of the cases.
