The Ministry of Information Technology and Communication has granted licenses for installation, operation and administration of electronic communication networks at Moldova's border to the companies Orange Moldova and StarNet, the Ministry said in a press release quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Until present, only the national telecommunication operator Moldtelecom was authorized to operate transborder Internet lines.
Minister Alexandru Oleinic and the beneficiaries of the new licenses have described the event as 'historic' and which will contribute to the development of the information technology sector in Moldova.
“The significance of this event is the demonopolization of the data flows via transborder networks, which will inevitably lead to cheaper prices and better Internet services. Apart from the beneficial competition created between private companies and the enterprise Moldtelecom, we have also advanced the security of the access to the Internet. The more connexions will be built, the stronger the guarantees for the Internet access”, said Oleinic.
