The hearing in the Shor case set to take place at the Cahul Appeals Court on April 3 was postponed because of the unavailability of the judges. Mihaela Tarlapan, press officer of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, has told IPN that the next hearing was scheduled for May 20.
In June 2017, the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court sentenced the suspended mayor of Orhei to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.
The sentence of the first court was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months and in February 2018 was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court.
In the February 24 legislative elections, Ilan Shor was elected as a member of Moldova’s Parliament.
