A businessman was arrested on suspicion that he illegally got two loans totaling 80 million lei from Banca de Economii (BEM) in 2011. He will initially stay under arrest for 72 hours, IPN reports.
The man faces a fine of up to 60,000 lei or three to eight years in jail.
Several days ago, two businessmen were arrested on similar charges. The directors of the companies “Valiexchimp” and “Fuel” are accused of illegally obtaining loans of over half a billion lei from BEM, Banca Sociala and Unibank. The director of “Valiexchimp” was placed under arrest for 30 days, while the other director for 72 hours initially.
Eighteen criminal cases over illegal obtaining of money from the three banks have been sent to court. A part of these are at the final stage of examination.
