The Chisinau-based Church “Annunciation” suggests instituting a Repentance Day for the women who aborted and the persons who helped or persuaded them to abort. On May 16, priest Vasile Filat told a news conference held on the occasion of the Family Day that the number of abortions increased significantly in Moldova, but the people do not realize the gravity of this problem, Info-Prim Neo reports. “More than 1.5 million children had been aborted in Moldova between 1992 and 2009. All our efforts to have a better life by ignoring this genocide will be in vain,” said the priest. Vasile Filat said that according to official statistics, there were 14,500 abortions in 2009. The number of abortion cases has not modified much until now, while nonofficial records are at least two times higher than the official ones. The priest said the main causes for abortion in Moldova include the lenient laws, the immorality of the people and the encouragement to such acts given by medical institutions. “The doctors should also repent of the abortions they made. The teachers who encouraged their students to abort should also confess their sins. Everyone should repent, including the husbands of the women who aborted. Repentance means abandonment of sin and the abortion practice,” said Vasile Filat.
