Chancellor Angela Merkel gave a good hint as to where the Moldovans’ place is and namely in the Eastern Partnership. If Moldova moves well in the direction of implementing the agenda related to the Agreement of Association with the EU, then some prospects of joining the EU might appear. The opinion was shared with Info-Prim Neo by political analyst Ion Tabarta. According to Tabarta, Germany has certain interests regarding the Eastern Partnership, which the EU certainly will not allow to fail. “The EU wants stability at its borders and the Eastern Partnership is supposed to be a stability program. Besides, the Chancellor’s visit is an attempt to explore the geopolitical field because she has certain intents in this part of Europe, where she may get some economical resources to develop its economy”, said Ion Tabarta. The analyst claims that the visit was a clear message for Moldova to continue its reforms. The focus will now fall on the economic dialogue between Moldova and Germany and if it goes in the right direction, Germany will also participate politically in the processes Moldova is involved in. Another political commentator Oazu Nantoi thinks that the visit of the German Chancellor was determined by the European Union’s wish to have a positive example in the Eastern Partnership and Moldova fits the bill. Angela Merkel was in Moldova in the afternoon of August 22, at the invitation of Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
