More than 102,000 students are enrolled in schools in Chisinau, said deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality Angela Kutasevich. According to her, the number of applications to enroll children in municipal educational institutions in recent years has steadily increased and the school infrastructure has to be therefore extended, IPN reports.

The functionary noted that there are 150 schools attended by over 102,000 students in Chisinau. Every year the number of requests to enroll students increases and for this reason the municipality proposed to expand the school infrastructure.

“The rise in the number of students is driven by internal migration. A large part of the rural population chooses to come to Chisinau. Chisinau is the last hope for the citizens who choose to stay in the Republic of Moldova. In Chisinau we have 330 educational institutions. The number of children enrolled in Chisinau institutions increases steadily, by about 3,000 children annually. This gladdens us, but also makes us be more responsible. That’s why in recent years we have intervened to extend, repair and reintegrate into the system 21 buildings, spaces for school and kindergarten,” Angela Kutasevich stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV channel.

According to the deputy mayor, in order to cope with the large number of requests to enroll children in schools, the municipality built the educational complex Kindergarten-Secondary School STEAM. The institution has a capacity of almost 600 places and has 32 classrooms. The school will start to work at full capacity on September 1.

“We are preparing the STEAM Secondary School for opening on September 1 with investments of over 30 million lei. We will have a new school in the center of the capital city. The last repair works are being executed on block B. Block A was finished last year. From September 1, the school will be fully functional. We also have expansion projects in other spaces where it was possible to build, either extensions were built or new blocks were erected, so as to make use of all the existing spaces,” said the deputy mayor of Chisinau.
