Andrian Mardare and Alexandra Emilianov named athletes of the year

Andrian Mardare has had the best year of his career. The 22 year old won the gold medal at the U23 European Throwing Cup in Spain, another gold at the European Athletics Team Championships Second League in Israel and bronze at the U23 European Championships in Poland, IPN reports.

In 2017, Mardare set four new national records in javelin throwing: 82.34 meters, 82.38, 83.71 and 83.93. He also competed in the Taiwan Universiade where he ranked 4th.

Alexandra Emilianov was recognized as best female athlete. She specializes in discus throwing and is coached by Vadim Hranovschi. The 18 year old won the U20 European Championships in Italy (discus throw) and the U20 Balkan Championship in Turkey (weigh throw). She also won two gold medals at the U20 Balkan Championships in Romania (both weigh and discus). At the U23 Throwing Cup in Spain she won the bronze medal in the discus event.

Soslan Marghiev was named coach of the year and Alexandra Marghiev the best athlete in the masters category.
