The signing of a joint statement by Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, addressed to the European Parliament, is an important step from political viewpoint and from the perspective of Moldova’s European aspirations. However, we do not speak now about the submission of an application for EU membership, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“All the three states and their political elites aspire to the European integration. That’s why we requested the European Parliament to sign a resolution by which, besides recognizing our states as European, to also recognize their aspirations and the possibility that one day they can become EU member states,” said the Speaker.

Andrian Candu also said that for now in Brussels they do not speak about the enlargement of the EU. However, in the European chancelleries they say that the enlargement itself was one of the successful projects of the EU. Even if there is now the problem with the UK, the enlargement of the EU in the future is not excluded. “What matters is to be eligible, to submit an application ad to start the pre-accession procedures that are the most pleasant step of the accession process and envision a lot of investments and transformations, including in the daily life of the people,” he stated.

According to him, the cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, the macro-financial assistance of the EU and the membership perspective are intended not for a particular government of Moldova, but for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. That’s why any action against this cooperation affects the country.

The legislative bodies of the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine signed a joint statement whereby these call on the European Parliament to adopt a resolution before the Eastern Partnership Summit to express political support for opening the membership perspective of the three associate states.
