The transposition of good European practices and expertise in the justice sector will strengthen the functional capacities of the national law enforcement agencies and will help improve the fight against corruption, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in a meeting with the group of experts of the EU peer review mission of rule of law institutions in Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press service, the Speaker noted among the priorities the accelerated implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU and planned reforms and the resumption of the discussions with the International Monetary Fund. According to him, the authorities are working out a plan of action for speedily implementing the accord and the DCFTA, which contains the timeframes and institutions in charge.

“The real and efficient reforms in the legal system and corruption fighting will contribute to regaining the people’s and development partners’ confidence and to ensuring independent and transparent justice,” stated Andrian Candu.

The EU peer review mission of rule of law institutions in Moldova was organized at the request of the Head of Parliament and Prime Minister. Its goal is to assess the efficiency of the work of such institutions as the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center, the Supreme Council of Magistracy, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Constitutional Court. Its conclusions and recommendations will be made public in spring.
