Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu will hold the post of President of Moldova on an interim basis in order to sign the decree to appoint the new members of the Cabinet, IPN reports.

“The Constitutional Court, as a guarantor of the Constitution, offered today a solution to the institutional blockage generated by President Igor Dodon, who again decided to ignore the norms of the supreme law. As the acting President, I will soon sign the decree to name ministers and will swear these in,” Andrian Candu said, commenting on the January 2 judgment by the Constitutional Court.

At the request of a group of MPs of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, the CC ascertained the circumstances that justify the necessity of suspending President Igor Dodon from post. According to Andrian Candu, the CC judgment provides a solution that allows holding the post of President on an interim basis, only for appointing the new members of the Cabinet.

The proposed new Cabinet members are Cristina Lesnic, Chiril Gaburici, Svetlana Cebotari, Liviu Volconovici, Tudor Ulianovschi, Alexandru Tanase and Iurie Leanca. The latter was suggested for the newly instituted post of deputy prime minister – for European integration.
