Andrian Candu was sworn is as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy on July 3. The sworn-in ceremony took place at the State Residence and was attended by President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, IPN reports.

In the morning, Nicolae Timofti signed the decree on the discharge of Valeriu Lazar from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and the appointment of Andrian Candu to this post, at the suggestion of Iurie Leanca.

Yesterday evening, Valeriu Lazar told the press that he offered his resignation a year ago, but, as he was directly involved in the negotiations on the Association Agreement that includes the DCFTA, he decided to remain until the accord is ratified.

In the same news conference, Andrian Candu said the Ministry of Economy is one of the most important ministries. “It is a challenge for me, also because the ministry was managed by a person like Valeriu Lazar, who has extraordinary qualities, great experience and capacities. It’s not what I thought I will do in the last part of the mandate, but politics in Moldova make you be ready for any twist. It is a challenge because there are periods full of provocations and we probably have a hot autumn ahead,” stated the new minister, who held the post of Deputy Head of Parliament until recently.
