Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu described the speculations about the annulment or postponement of the presidential elections set for October 30, 2016 as deceiving and malicious. He made such statement in a press beefing, IPN reports.
“They speculated a lot lately about intentions to postpone or annul the presidential elections. I say it once and for all: Those who aim to introduce so much venom and make so many speculations should stop because the elections will take place on October 30 this year. We are waiting for the Venice Commission’s decision on June 11 and, based on its expert appraisal, we will formulate amendments to the legislation. As you know, the amendments are adopted in the second reading and this will happen in about two weeks,” he stated.
Andrian Candu noted that the international organizations were issued with invitations to monitor the elections of this autumn and affirmative answers came already.
“This week, we sent invitations to international observers of international organizations and our partners and asked them to supervise the November 30 presidential elections. We already received a confirmation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which will send more than 20 representatives to Moldova for October 30. That’s why I repeat that the elections will take place and all the deceptive and malicious speculations should stop,” stated the Speaker.
