The government coalition between the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Democratic Party (PDM) will most probably lead to the disappearance of the latter. According to the former vice president of the PDM Andrian Candu, the party will lose its European identity and this will lead to its disappearance from the political arena of Moldova, IPN reports.

“The PDM has now particular administrative instruments: districts, mayor’s offices, councilors. The PSRM this way secures the PDM’s support and one of the conditions of the coalition is for the PDM not to field an own candidate in the presidential elections and to support President Igor Dodon so that this could win by the first round. If the PDM acts like this, this party will disappear from the political arena,” Andrian Candu stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.

He noted that a number of MPs and members of the PDM do not agree with the party’s decision to open negotiations on the formation of a government coalition with the PSRM.

“Many of them do not feel well and will not feel well as part of a government coalition with the PSRM. Many of them do not see prospects in a party that will not pass the election threshold. There are about ten Democratic MPs who are dissatisfied with the decision taken by the PDM today,” said the former Parliament Speaker.

Asked about the PDM members who want a coalition with the PSRM, Andrian Candu said there are persons who always want to be in power and are there where there is the power. “With all respect for the president of honor, but Mister Diacov forms part of this category and this is not something negative. The category of people who have economic and business interests includes Mister Nikiforchuk. These consider that their economic interests will either become more profitable or will be maintained. And there are the others who are against such a coalition, but have to consent owing to a particular context,” stated Andrian Candu.

The PSRM and PDM announced the initiation of discussions on the formation of a government coalition.
