The presidential elections will most probably take place this autumn, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“The Constitutional Court adopted a revolutionary decision. The Venice Commission recommends holding the elections in half a year when changes of such a scale are made. We also need time to prepare for the presidential elections. The election contenders will also need time,” stated the Speaker.

Andrian Candu noted that the date of the presidential elections will most probably be set in two months. “During a month, we will draft bills to adjust the electoral legislation to the Constitutional Court’s decision. The voting procedure will follow. This will last for at least one month. Afterward, we will set the date of the presidential elections,” he said.

On March 4, the Constitutional Court ruled that the amendments to the Constitution made in 2000, by which the method of electing the head of state was changed from the direct vote of the people into the vote in Parliament, are unconstitutional.
