The Democratic Party (PDM) will have its own candidate in the presidential elections and will not support the candidates of other parties, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said, refuting the rumors that the Democrats will support the Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon in the elections. He developed the issue in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

“We will definitely have our own candidate. Why should we support a candidate whose position differs from ours? Why should the PDM limit itself to an agreement with the candidate of another party?” asked Candu.

The Head of Parliament said they haven’t yet discussed a candidate for the post of President inside the PDM. “We haven’t had such discussions inside the party. I think we will choose the candidate after the date of presidential elections is set,” he stated.

Andrian Candu denied the accusation that the PDM knew beforehand about the Constitutional Court’s Judgment of March 4 and thus the preparations for presidential elections in Parliament weren’t launched. “We had other priorities such as the relations with the European partners, working out of the roadmap, designation of the National Bank governor and ensuring of political stability. When we were told that there will be no money to pay pensions from April, we didn’t have time to devote to the presidential elections,” he explained.

The Speaker noted that in the current situation Nicolae Timofti is a good President and it is good that he accepted to hold the post ad interim, until a new Head of State is elected.
