The nomination of the candidate for premiership could be delayed, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in the program “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“At this moment (December 20, 7:10pm, e.n.), we haven’t yet reached a consensus with the PLDM. It’s a pity that we cannot break this deadlock. Tomorrow (Monday, December 21, e.n.), we will meet once again. If we do not reach an agreement, we will ask the head of state to postpone the nomination of the candidate for Prime Minister. I hope the national interests will ultimately prevail over the narrow party interests,” stated Candu.

He made it clear that the PDM will further claim the right to designate the candidate and could renounce the post of Speaker. “The candidate for Prime Minister must be proposed by the party with the highest number of seats of MP. The PDM holds 20 seats. There are other posts in the Government. There are also executive posts in Parliament, which could be conceded to the PLDM. Flexibility is needed. There should be rotation,” said Candu.

The Head of Parliament noted that the PDM will most probably not vote for the candidate proposed by Nicolae Timofti. “The head of state will assume particular risks if he nominates a candidate for premiership without consulting the parties,” he said.

Andian Candu also said that the PDM will neither vote for Ion Sturza, if this is fielded for Prime Minister, as it is rumored. “Ion Sturza has experience, is a good economist and knows the realities, but his behavior is doubtful. It’s not known whose interests he promotes. He could have come and talked to us, but he preferred to enter through the back door,” he stated.

Nicolae Timofti asked the parliamentary parties to suggest a candidate for premiership by 2pm on December 21.
