In the second half of September, the MPs could take a decision about the electoral legislation, after the Parliament’s legal commission extensively analyzes the electoral legislation and presents a report on the issue, Speaker Andrian Candu stated in a special edition of the program “Moldova live” on Moldova 1 channel, IPN reports.
Andrian Candu said the electoral legislation should be reviewed so as to avoid the invalidation of elections in the future. “Maybe our Election Code that dates from 1996 does not meet the realities according to particular criteria. Maybe we should modify it and remove the restrictions imposed on the election day,” he stated. According to the Speaker, there are many questions as to the electoral legislation and answers and solutions should be found, especially because the parliamentary elections will take place based on the mixed electoral system.
As to Moldova’s relations with the EU following the invalidation of the mayoral elections in Chisinau, Andrian Candu said the misunderstandings will be overcome and Moldova will continue on the path of European integration. “We are for a pro-European government. The Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” are the closest to us. There is potential to form an alliance with the PAS and PPDA,” he noted.
The Speake also said the relations with the EU could be improved and there are possibilities for unblocking the suspended EU macro-financial assistance. “We want a solution to be identified so that this situation is overcome. That’s why in September we will invite representatives of the EU to show what was done over the Decision that was adopted in Moldova’s Parliament and to present other results for these to be assessed. The decision about the financial assistance could be changed in September and a new resolution could be adopted in the European Parliament in September,” stated Andrian Candu.
