Ex-Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Democratic MP, said the Interpol didn’t accept to put the former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc on the wanted list because the case based on which such a request was made is political in character.
The MP noted he speaks with Vladimir Plahotniuc rarely and does not know his whereabouts. “I don’t ask Plahotniuc where he is because I don’t want to put him in the situation to answer me. I also don’t want to know because I will probably break the law if I do not inform the police,” Andrian Candu was quoted by IPN as saying in the TV8 talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics”.
He said he didn’t know about the second identity of Vladimir Plahotniuc, but understands that this is a secret file and the responsible persons should not make details public until those materials are declassified. “I understood that it is related to the hostages taken in Afghanistan. Particular operations, discussions, trips were planned and particular involvement was to be ensured, including on the part of the political factor,” he stated, noting that identity wasn’t used as far as he knows.
According to the politician, the reasons for the granting of a new identity should be examined as that identity was created for a particular purpose related to a secret file.
In the same program, Andrian Candu said he considers the President should be elected by Parliament, as earlier. “I think the President in the Republic of Moldova, which is a parliamentary republic, should be elected by Parliament, but this shift from direct election to election in Parliament should be made based on a referendum or a political decision by amending the Constitution,” he stated, adding that when the Constitutional Court in 2016 decided that the President should be elected by the people, it vitiated the procedure.
