In Moldova’s history, there were 37 cases of invalidation of local elections, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in a TV program.

“I was surprised to find out that there were 37 cases of annulment of local elections in the Republic of Moldova. I speak about mayoral and local council elections. The courts of law invalidated the local elections in particular communities and towns, including in Comrat, for example, because the electoral legislation was violated there. So, the case of the annulment of the Chisinau mayoral elections is not an exception or a novelty, but it is the first case of the kind in the municipality of Chisinau. They earlier violated the legislation too and these violations were penalized. There is nothing extraordinary here,” said the official.

The Speaker noted he does not see preconditions for the parliamentary elections of next February to be compromised. At the same time, those involved in the electoral process, first of all the Central Election Commission, should not relax as they must make sure the elections are free, fair and legal.

According to Andrian Candu, there will be three types of observation missions at the legislative elections – short-, medium- and long-term ones - and the information campaign was already launched.
