The leader of the Pro Moldova parliamentary group Andrian Candu said Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo is entitled to come to Parliament and demand to lift the immunity of MPs who are to be investigated. But such actions should take place in strict compliance with the law and should not be based on political motives.
“I’m not afraid of investigations or of the coming of the prosecutor general. I believe everything I did was legal and I wasn’t involved in illegalities of which I can be accused. At the same time, I said it often that the MPs should not benefit from particular protection. Everyone is equal before the law. If he has reasons, but real reasons, the prosecutor general can come to Parliament to discuss a particular investigation with reference to a particular MP,” Andrian Candu stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
The leader of the seven MPs who left the Democratic Party of Moldova is sure that there are no reasons for which the Prosecutor General’s Office could ask to lift the immunity of one of them. But he cannot say the same about his former party mates.
“I also heard rumors about investigations, about criminal cases that are revived. I suspect there are reasons, but it is not right to speculate. I consider the PDM is currently very vulnerable and thus takes decisions that are not necessarily related to the freedom of expression,” stated the MP.
PPPDA MP Alexandru Slusari, in a news conference on March 9, said that Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was expected to come to the March 10 sitting of Parliament to demand to lift the immunity of a number of MPs.
