At the 118th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe held in the French city of Strasbourg, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Andrei Stratan reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to sign a new document with Brussels given that the EU-Moldova Plan of Action was successfully implemented, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Foreign Ministry of Moldova. Delivering a speech at the meeting, the Moldovan Foreign Minister spoke about the fruitful cooperation between Moldova and the Council of Europe and the significant assistance provided by the CE in strengthening the democratic institutions, promoting the human rights and the state of law in Moldova. Referring to the Transnistrian dispute, the Moldovan official said that there are encouraging developments in promoting the Moldovan president’s measures aimed at building confidence between the two banks of the Nistru. These concern the insurance of free movement, joint participation in the formulation and implementation of projects designed to restore and modernize the infrastructure, solving of social problems. The minister assured that Moldova will continue making consistent efforts so as to identify a final solution to the conflict at the talks in the 5+2 format, by maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This topic was raised at the meeting of Andrei Stratan and his German counterpart Gunter Gloser. They also discussed the present stage and the prospects of developing the Moldovan-German relations of cooperation, taking stock of the results achieved in implementing the EU-Moldova Action Plan. The Moldovan minister spoke about the way in which the Plan was implemented and about the process of adjusting the national norms to the European standards in all the areas of activity. On this occasion, he asked Germany to offer assistance in signing a new document of cooperation between Moldova and the European Union. While in Strasbourg, Andrei Stratan had a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Raduta Dana Matache. The two officials pleaded for the development of the cooperation between Moldova and Romania both at bilateral level and within the regional and European organizations. They also discussed the latest developments in the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict, the progress made by Moldova on the path to European integration and other current issues related to the bilateral relations. Andrei Stratan had been in Strasbourg during May 6-7.
