Through the fault of Gazprom, Moldova has to purchase gas and electricity from the market and the jurists are considering these details so as to sure the Russian gas company. The energy crisis experienced by Moldova is generated by Gazprom and the Kremlin, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu stated for Deutsche Welle, IPN reports.
“We will also ask for collateral damages as, owing to them, we had to reallocate money from other areas, to take out loans.... We signed a contract with Gazprom and banked on that contract. We are not in October 2021, when the contract with Gazprom expired. Then they could tell us that they do not want to sign it with us. But now we have a valid contract and Gazprom didn’t ask for its termination and didn’t ask to reduce the amount. Nothing. It simply ignores the commitments and will pay for this,” stated the official.
Andrei Spînu noted that no one from Chisinau will ever accept to pay for the gas consumed on the left side of the Nistru. Gazprom cannot ask Chisinau to pay for the gas consumed on the left side of the Nistru. The consumption on the left and right sides of the Nistru is regulated by contract. “The contract we signed with Gazprom stipulates the amount of gas that the Russian company must supply to us, the price calculation formula and the payment method. We paid everything,” said the official.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development also said that the actions taken by Gazprom go beyond the economic and commercial framework. “They cut the gas across Europe. They cut the supply of gas to Bulgarians, Italians, Germans and also to Ukraine. They disconnected Poland, Finland... They can anytime send a letter to us and ask for something more, no matter what we decide,” stated the Deputy Premier.
He noted that if the Russian company had fulfilled its contract obligations with Moldova, the energy crisis would have disappeared and everyone would have had gas and energy.
The president of the Administration Board of SA Moldovagaz Vadim Ceban yesterday announced that he will pay a working visit to the Russian Federation during the next few days to meet with the chief of Gazprom Alexei Miller.
In October, Gazprom reduced the supply of gas to Moldova from 8.06 million m3 a day (for both sides of the Nistru), as the contract provides, to 5.7 million m3 a day. Following the signing of a contract with MGRES, the right side of the Nistru purchases electricity from the Kuchurgan power plant at the price of US$ 73 per MW. Instead, Moldovagaz directs to the Transnistrian region the whole amount of gas supplied by Gazprom to Moldova
