Ex-first deputy prosecutor general Andrei Pantea was remanded in custody for 25 days. The Buiucani Court partially admitted the request of prosecutors, who asked for 30 days of arrest. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office recently arrested the former first deputy prosecutor general Andrei Pantea on charges of abuse of power. He is accused of ordering the transfer of the case of thief in law Grigore Karamalac, alias Bulgaru, to Russia, where this was dropped.
According to the indictment, on March 6 and 7, 2013, Andrei Pantea groundlessly ordered to resume the prosecution of Grigore Karamalac. However, no investigative measure was taken afterward and the move was made only with the aim of transferring the given case.
Andrei Pantea left the system after the Superior Council of Prosecutors accepted his resignation in September 2015. This didn’t indicate the reason for the leaving in his application.
