The victory won by Andrei Nastase was predictable because the candidate enjoyed the support of a number of segments of voters, which could be turned into electoral capital, vice director of the Institute of Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Victor Juc stated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“The votes given to Valeriu Munteanu and Constantin Codreanu enabled to substantially liquidate that discrepancy of 20,000 votes in the first round of voting. The distribution of the votes of the supporters of Silvia Radu enabled Andrei Nastase to outstrip Ion Ceban, while the mobilization during the last three-four hours of voting allowed him to strengthen his lead and to reach the finish with a rather comfortable score,” said Victor Juc, noting that it was clear after the first round that Ion Ceban used up his electoral support.
Victor Juc stated those insinuations and revelations about the integrity and owned property of candidates witnessed in the election campaign should have been excluded as this aspect was less important.
Analyst Corneliu Ciurea said Andrei Nastase will promote politics at the City Hall and will not propose many projects. “The situation of Nastase is rather favorable for his political path. He is put in the situation to deliver results, but the delivery period is very short and he could thus resort to different political maneuvers and become involved in a game with the power where he knows how to victimize himself,” stated Corneliu Ciurea.
According to the preliminary election outcome, the candidate of the Parity “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase won the mayoral elections in Chisinau with 52.57% of the vote.
