Differing opinions were stated in discussions centering on the election of the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase as mayor general of Chisinau municipality. Some of the participants said his victory wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Democratic Party (PDM). Others said the voters chose the candidate who is more in opposition to the PDM, IPN reports.

Socialist MP Bogdan Tirdea noted Andrei Nastase wouldn’t have had the smallest chances of winning the elections without the support of the Democratic Party. According to him, the elected mayor will continue the same policy as the one pursued by his predecessor Dorin Chirtoaca. “He will not openly oppose an alliance with the Democratic Party and in November 2018 will form such an alliance,” the MP stated in the program “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

Historian Vladimir Yanyev noted the voters didn’t realize their decisive role in the electoral process and perceived themselves as supporters of one of the sides. The electors voted by the principle “ours” and “yours” and detached themselves from the problems that were discussed in the campaign. “This is our biggest problem and this is related to the candidates, also because in parts some tried and managed or didn’t to detach themselves from geopolitical problems and to devote attention to the local problems,” stated the historian.

Director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Andrei Popov said the voters in the mayoral runoffs in Chisinau municipality didn’t analyze things much to see which of the candidates is  more prepared for the post of mayor and which is in more opposition to the current system managed by the PDM. “I think most of the voters considered Andrei Nastase as the most unsuitable for the Democrats and this was mainly the reason for their choice,” stated Andrei Popov.

On June 3, Andrei Nastase won the mayoral runoffs in Chisinau municipality with 52.57% of the vote.
