Andrei Nastase, chairman of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA), said the decision to withdraw from the race for the presidency in favor of Maia Sandu, who heads the Party “Action and Solidarity”, was dictated by the fact that he placed the national interest above the party or personal interest. Andrei Nastase made such a statement in the public debate “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?”.

“I think Maia Sandu is the best solution for the country and she should be chosen. I and the members of the Platform will do everything possible for her to reach the runoff elections and will struggle against those who play the role of the power and the opposition. Afterward, we will see who is good. I’m sure that in three months we can jail those who debased the country,” stated Andrei Nastase.

He noted that the PPPDA proposed nominating a common candidate in spring yet. “Three parties withstood this exercise, while the rest chose to follow another path. Even if they are called anti-oligarchic, they showed that the party interest is the most important one. By a unanimous decision, we decided to support candidate Maia Sandu because only this way can we diminish the chances of this regime of Plahotniuc to propel Marian Lupu to the second round of voting. But Lupu has been in power for 13 years and profaned all the posts in the state and now wants to profane that of Head of State too,” said the politician.

The leader of the PPPDA is sure that Maia Sandu, as Head of State, will improve Moldova’s image abroad and will stimulate the investigation into the banking frauds. “I have the guarantee that she will be supported by the development partners and that she will cooperate. I call on all the people to vote for Maia Sandu as this is the chance to free the presidential institution from political influence,” stated Andrei Nastase.

The electoral public debate “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?” forms part of a series of debates that involve candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova. It is the 64th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized by IPN with the assistance of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
