If the Democratic Party’s candidate for President Marian Lupu reaches the runoff vote, this will be a sign that the elections had been massively rigged, said the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, who announced his withdrawal from the race for the presidency in favor of Maia Sandu, who is the candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity”.

Taking part in an electoral debate entitled “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?”, staged by IPN News Agency, Andrei Nastase said lists of persons who would vote for several times in exchange for remuneration are already compiled all over Moldova. The politician called on the press to broadly investigate all the schemes of election rigging.

“October 30 is the day of our great protest against the current government that shows disrespect for the country and forces the people to go abroad. We now have a historical chance of opposing by the consolidated vote of those who woke up and know that the country has a future with a new political class of which Maia Sandu also forms part,” stated Andrei Nastase.

He called on all their supporters to show wisdom and to vote for Maia Sandu. “I have confidence in Maia Sandu and ask to have confidence in my decision to take part in elections by supporting her. Otherwise, we would have favored the geopolitical candidate. We must unite against an oligarchic candidate. We all struggled to free the presidency and then other state institutions from captivity and must take the country out of poverty,” said the politician.

The electoral public debate “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?” forms part of a series of debates that involve candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova. It is the 64th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized by IPN with the assistance of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
